Movie Clip Wednesday:New York, New York

Are ya kiddin' folks??? Gracious, how does one choose??

Our indefatigable hostess, Joanna Cake has provided us a very fine theme, New York New York.

Rear Window, Hitchcock's creepy voyeuristic examination of our curiosity about others..Grace Kelly and Jimmy Stewart? How could ya miss? But...the scenery is too confined to git a real NYC feel to it.

Marjorie Morningstar, a coming of age favorite wif' Nathalie Wood...

The musical
WestSide Story...mayhap a blog jinx there...

Manchurian Candidate! Yeah--uh, wait...if the K9 plays it'll be a blog jinx too.

Or, a mystery?
The Thin Man, hmmmn?

I know!
Superman--Gotham city--or BATMAN!.......Is King Kong too obvious? mebbe this is whar' I oughta take it...Godzilla? X-Men?

But, what about some existential angst?
Midnight Cowboy?

Believable evil in bidness center of the world,
The Devil's Advocate wif' Pacino? Or jes' go straight to the Godfathers three?

Could throw in a sweet unexpected Christmas movie,
Miracle on 34th Street...

But in the end, I'se goin' wif an all time favorite for ladies of a certain age--when I first seen this movie I was sheltered enough not to catch the, ah, profession of the charmin' lady lead. An' now ya know, an' if thar's a blog jinx, well, I unnerstan....but the early mornin' view of New York, the bittersweet truths, the regrets we must leave behind in order to move on--an the
music. This short clip captures all that.

Breakfast At Tiffany's with Audrey Hepburn and George Peppard

Happy MCW!

Good afternoon Aunty Belle,

A good choice for New York all fancy and glitz up front with the dark side behind.

I hadn't realized that Moon River was written for this movie. I think of it with Andy Williams. It sounds better as an instrumental.

Hope you're having a stellar clip day.

Karl, Andy Williams?? Oh my heavens--he had a nice voice but I think I like the instrumental better too.

There are so many NYC movies--hard to choose.

I thought of the Thomas Crown Affair too--but then, wuz that set in Boston?

Excellent choice, Aunty! I never realized it was written by Truman Capote. Happy MCW!

And directed by Blake Edwards. I've never seen this movie but like that Audry Hepburn shows up for breakfast in an evening gown. And the opera gloves keeps the donut from sticking to your fingers.

Happy MCW!

Miracle on 34th Street was the next movie on my list, Aunty. Loving Breakfast at Tiffanys - Audrey Hepburn is so gorgeous. Didnt know it was directed by Blake Edwards tho!

Dawgawn, I hate it when my comment vanishes. Try again...

Great choice. I, too, was innocently unaware of Holly's profession. Can't help wondering how many young'uns today would be so naive.

Miracle on 34th Street - the original, of course - has always been amongst my all-time favourites. Mention of NY, though, would probably have brought to my own mind Barefoot in the Park, which I have enjoyed many times. Or perhaps Up the Down Staircase or The Goodbye Girl, both of which I liked a lot more originally than I would today. Maybe Funny Girl would result from recollecting another life with a beau who had the most bodacious crush on 'Barbra' and thought I looked a lot like her. And that's all I'll say about THAT. 8-ß
